THE SAN MARINO CUP
July 4th – 10th 2011

The prestigious International Tournament, “The San Marino Cup”, will host approx. 65 teams from as many as 15 nations.  The participating teams come from all over the world – USA, Canada, Brazil, Guatemala, Sweden, England, Germany, Spain, Italy and of course San Marino.  Both the boys and girl’s categories are at a good level.  Both the opening ceremony and the finals will take place at San Marino’s Olympic Stadium.

The tournament takes place in the oldest Republic in the world.  History, art and culture are ready to welcome you to the foot of Mount Titan.  You will be amazed by the beautiful landscapes and great hospitality of one of the smallest countries in the world.  The Adriatic Riviera and Rimini, with their host of attractions are only 20 kilometres away from the Republic of San Marino.  Here it is impossible to get bored as the games plus the rich tournament programme will provide a fantastic stay for your team.  You will have the opportunity to enjoy the very good local cuisine and discover the traditions and customs of the region, as well as enjoying top quality sports facilities.

The tournament is open only to teams that are members of a football association registered with FIFA.

Tournament Programme

Monday 4th July 2011
Teams arrival at the “Centro Azzurro” for registration.  Each coach and one manager from each team will be invited to meet one of the tournament directors in order to verify the tournament rules and documents for the games.  Continue on to your accommodation.

Tuesday 5th July 2011
Qualification games begin at 0900 hours.  They will take place in both the morning and the afternoon.  At 2100 hours the “Opening Ceremony” of the San Marino Cup takes place at the Olympic Stadium.  All participating teams must take part.  The Ceremony will close with a fantastic pyrotechnic show.

Wednesday 6th July 2011
At 0900 hours further qualification games begin and continue for the rest of the day. 

Thursday 7th July 2011
Qualification games will continue today.  Some Quarterfinals may be played.  Games will continue all day.  This evening at 2100 hours a “Mediaeval Show” will be organised for all participants by the “Cava dei Balestrieri” in the historical centre of San Marino.  This is free to all participants.

Friday 8th July 2011
Semi-Finals Day.  The best teams from all tournament categories will play for admission to the Finals.  At 2100 hours at the “Centre Azzurro”, a disco party will be organised and reserved for all participants in the San Marino Cup.  The disco will be open until midnight.

Saturday 9th July 2011
Today the finals will take place in both the morning and the afternoon.  The main finals will be played at the Olympic Stadium.  At 1700 hours, the Prize Giving Ceremony begins.  All teams are invited.

Tournament Format

The teams will be divided into groups of 4, or possibly 5 teams, with each team playing all the others in the group.  The teams placed 1st and 2nd in the first round, will play in the second round “A” group.  The remaining teams will play in the second round “B” group.  The two pools will play the quarter-finals, semi-finals and finals.  All teams are guaranteed a minimum of 4 games.

What kind of accommodation is available?

2,3 & 4-Star Hotels in San Marino, Rimini, and Riccione are available on a half-board basis.  The Centre Azzurro can also serve dinners at the tournament.  Players will be accommodated in rooms with 3-4 beds, whilst coaches and parents will be in single, twin or double rooms.

Local transportation. 

Teams travelling to the San Marino Cup will require a coach for transfers to and from the airport and to and from the various matches.

How can we travel to the San Marino Cup?

By Coach – It is possible to travel to San Marino by coach with an overnight stop on the way. 
By air – Some of the Low Cost airlines fly to Bologna, just an hour’s drive from San Marino.
